Our Goat Goals:

Our goats get most of their nutrition from natural pasture. We suppliment their diet with hay, and organic grains and minerals to ensure a well rounded diet.

There is an increasing amount of data suggesting that meat, and dairy from pasture raised animals have health benefits not found in commercial raised animals. These benefits may include anti-inflammatory, anti- carcinogenic, and cardioprotective factors. Pasture raised animals also produce products that are lower in fat, calories, and cholesterol and higher in nutrients than commercially raised animals. For more on this topic, refer to the referenced article “Health-Promoting Phytonutrients Are Higher in Grass-Fed Meat and Milk,” (Van Vliet S, Provenza FD and Kronberg SL 2021).

We offer pure bred myotonic goats for meat. We also breed our myotonic goats with other breeds known for muscular build and high growth rate. The myotonic gene has been shown to add significantly more meat to bone ratio than other breeds. This means more usable meat and less waste (J.M. Dzakuma and E. Risch,1996).

While 100% Myotonic goats are meaty and flavorful, they take longer to reach a weight in which they can be harvested. This adds higher feed costs and prolongs the time we are able to get products to costumers.

Creating hybrid myotonic meat goats retains that high muscle ratio in a larger package. It allows us to get quality products to our costumers more efficiently, while cutting costs for costumers.

When you purchase a goat from us, you are getting young and fresh goat that was raised on a pasture diet. You are getting a heavily muscled, well fed goat that lived in a low stress environment. The meat from these goats are tender, savory, and sweet.

Unlike commercially raised goat, you will find that you don’t need much seasoning for a full flavored gourmet experience. The flavor is much like a more savory beef.

If you are seeking a more gamey or intense flavor, you can ask us about purchasing an intact or older goat.

Preparing and eating your goat

However you like to eat your goat, know that this goat does not need heavy seasoning to cover up the taste! many recipes you will find online are for commercially raised goat that is tough, or very strong in musky flavor.

Goat that is raised on pasture in a stress- reduced environment does not have this strong taste! Pasture raised goat can be enjoyed and prepared similar to beef.

We recommend a red wine marinade for a few hours, patting dry, then salt and pepper to taste. Add the goat to any of your favorite sides or dishes and enjoy!
